The Campaign

Every culture, every creed, every country unites under one symbol. Symbols are what give us visible direction, inspiring goals and a persistent vision.

Lance Armstrong, in his bid to spread the word for his cancer research, chanced upon what is arguably the best marketing tool you can have: something you 'wear'.

His LIVESTRONG wristband became a global phenomenon, uniting those who want to defeat cancer under one colour and one message.

We will do the same. The Land of The Pure wristband - green and white - will be worn by every Pakistani, young and old, if and only if they wish to end this. Every time they look at it, they will remember their promise: do NOT be a part of this. Be Pure. Be Pakistani.

Every time you are faced with a moment which requires you to take part in corruption - big or small - the band will remind you. Every time you have to choose between your own personal comfort and requirement and that of the purity of the nation which you call home, the band will remind you.

What does this entail? Help.

Help from every Pakistani on the planet! America, Canada, UK, Australia, Middle East, Africa and yes: Pakistan.

This Campaign isn't mine or his or hers or a group of people etc. This campaign lives only through you, through every Pakistani who chooses to take up this cause.

Here's how you can be a part:

1. Are you connected to the media (newspapers, radio, TV, music)? We need publicity.

2. Are you a graphic designer or a visual artist? We need a face.

3. Are you a good web designer? We need an online presence.

4. Are you good at spreading the word? We need every Pakistani everywhere involved. The janitor in your school to the CEO of your company, the chai walla in the street to the Minister of Defence. Everyone. No exceptions. Facebook, Orkut, MySpace, Twitter, MSN, Blogs, etc. EVERYTHING we use for social networking: use it.

5. You. We need YOU to make a promise: I will be Pure. I will be Pakistani.

Take up this cause and make it your own.

Save your country.

So it begins...

For too long have the nation's young and old alike lived in a distant hope of change.

For too long have each of the last 3 generations lived under the yoke of corruption, a corruption which turned from external influence to personal necessity in the wake of bureaucratic insolence.

Pakistan - the nation which was founded to be the beacon of the Pure by its very name - has become a slave to the few who command the many to 'pay up'.

No longer.

After a long and ardous wait, this new generation - our generation - of Pakistanis are in a position to change things, and they will.

The Land of the Pure - or, Mera Paak Watan - campaign aims to do 2 things and 2 things alone:

Unite us, and eradicate corruption.

In order for this to happen, we must once again unite as we did during our wars and battles with the enemy. Only this time, the war is within, the enemy our own.

Corruption is the cause of every evil that handicaps this nation. From sport to education, from careers to talent, corruption demands and dictates how we grow and where we go.

Only if every single one of us visibly takes a stand to STOP being a part of this, can it stop as well. Can you? Can you say 'no' to the lawyer who demands a bribe to get your certificate attested? Can you say 'no' to the policeman who will beat you up because you don't want to pay 50 rupees? Can you say 'no' to illegal driving licences and go get a real, legal one?

This and so many other things have become part of our daily lives, so much so that we don't even realise it. 'Chalta hai' is the opium of the masses.

Unite, my Pakistanis. Unite once and for all time. Rid us of this infection. Cleanse us of this impurity.

Make us Pure once more.
